Cognitivism as a Learning Theory (Module 2)

All learning theories were developed in different educational contexts. Each offers a better option or explanation to the above by expressing the social, cultural and knowledge changes. All evolved at the time. As Kerr expressed in his blog, we need a new theory to bring the change necessary in our education system. Indeed, the increase in the amount of knowledge, easy access and distribution through the Internet as well as different forms of expression (Web 2.0, 3.0), I understand the need to rethink new theory or approach that substantiates the learning process. However, while this happens it is better to take the est of all and that which can fulfill the educational objectives. That's why I agree with Kapp Notes.
I agree with Kapp, learning is not a solo activity, is multicontextual. Occurs in context with particular stimuli and particular responses. Requires heredity and environment acting together . Each theory, behavioral, cognitive and constructivist response to a context and an educational need. So, explore the best of each in terms of content and learning is the best option.

  1. Guillermina,

How do you think the new theory will emerge? Do you think it will be based on just one theory or do you think is will be a collaboration of several?

  2. I understand that learning theories are based on the needs of the context in which they arose. Each says, in my view, the types of knowledge needed and existing. As it appears the increase in the forms of knowledge and content, it requires new forms and mental structures. Today, globalization and technology based forms and processes required for learning. I understand that the theory should respond to context and can be translated to the particular needs it. Connectivism is a sample from it and others that might arise as with behaviorism and cognitivism set possibilities of new forms of teaching and learning.

  3. G. and Bob,

As stated in my blog I sincerely believe that there is no one-size-fits all theory -- Especially within the digital age. Our youth are so diversified, how can we honestly pick one to meet their needs? Your thoughts..

  4. G.,

In terms of the quote of Kapp, whereas learning is not a solo activity -- It is multicontextual there is no better explanation. I totally agree with this concept!
